A 60 year old lady visiting my clinic for some common acute complaints like cough, cold, sinusitis asked me if her wart on her forehead can be cured with homeopathy… My immediate question was, “Since how long are you having this wart” and she quipped, “15 years !!”…

I studied her case in detail and started giving her a constitutional medicine along with infrequent doses of anti-miasmatic medicine. She wanted something to apply locally. Understanding her request, I gave her a homeopathic ointment to apply locally. To her surprise, and my satisfaction, her wart completely disappeared within two months.

How many of us listen to mp3 songs in our laptop or mobile.. or take Aspirin – arguably one of worlds favourite painkiller.. millions of us isn’t it? Lets take this ahead.. how many of us have undergone an X-Ray even in our lives so far… atleast once? For those who drive cars, while you were considering options to buy, I am sure one of your strong considerations was the number of airbags the car has, isn’t it?

Do you see the commonality… each of these (and a lot more..) have been originated in Germany… this brings me to my passion which I call the 8th Wonder of the World.. “Homeopathy”.. which also was ‘invented’ in Germany.. before any of us existed.

Before almost 200 years, the world was introduced to the world of Homeopathy.

Zooming into today, while conventional medication (often called as “allopathy”) is typically the more "popular" line of treatment preferred by most of the patients, there are clearly two schools of thought here. There are groups which ‘like to dislike’ homeopathy because its often spoken to be ‘slow’ in treating illnesses while there is another group which strongly dislikes the conventional (often called “allopathy”) line of treatment as it simply aims to cure the symptoms of the disease and not the disease itself... its not 'natural" etc.

My intent here is not to spark a debate on which school of thought is correct and which isn’t, but having worked with patients across Indian states from the last 8 years, at a grass root level, from rural to urban areas.. from remote Orissa to Gujarat, here is my point of view.

The objective that we as doctors vow to go after (Hippocratic Oath), in principle means treating patients with best of our ability, maintain privacy of patients and most importantly pass on the best practices to the next generation etc. Underpinning this objective is to practice ethically…. As the cliché goes.. “Doing things right and doing the right things”. Both Conventional and Homeopathy offer different perspectives to treat the patients. Not only can the two be taken together to complement each other’s ability to heal the disease, but the key is to identify the types of ailment / disease and determine which is the right “integrated” approach to “Wellness” in this case. In many cases, I have endorsed conventional medicines given the context, in very many cases purely homeopathy, while umpteen number of times, I have recommended a hip-jointed integrated approach to treat the patients, holistically.

The ‘art’ is to practice ethically, and look at the ailment holistically, draw an integrated “wellness plan” and give the right medicines.

At Dr. Hathi’s Holistic Heals , the aim is to create this “integrated approach” for patients to achieve holistic wellness for the patients… which I call, the “Unity of Opposites”
